The spectacle of an award-ceremony red carpet is a pop-culture philosopher’s dream. The formal structure of the photocall; the gaze, and the gazed-upon. The performative nature not only of the actor but his outfit, his carefully-chosen accessories and alignment to, or defiance of, identifiable trends. How much is symbol, and sign?
